On May 15, 2009, approximately 40 fathers and sons enjoyed fiishing, knife-throwing, wood-working, good food and great worship at the annual Homeschool Father/Son Retreat hosted by Mark & April Hager.
On August 11, 2009, over fifty people gathered at the St. Albans Library for a Homeschooling Getting Started Workshop.
On August 21-22, nineteen homeschooling moms gathered at the Cedar Lakes Conference Center in Ripley, WV, for the annual Homeschool Mom's Retreat. Participants were "KNIT" closer to the Lord and to each other as they were inspired by by homeschooling moms Teresa Ward and Sheila Tingler. Moms enjoyed a friendship tea, knitting lessons, a book swap, games, treasure chest devotions, prizes and more. A big thank you to April Hager and Barbie Null who, once again, planned a very special weekend for our homeschooling mothers.

On Monday, September 24, 2009, over 50 homeschoolers gathered at the Cross Lanes Public Library for a special Homeschool Day. Guest speakers from both St. Albans branch and the main Charleston Library taught the children and parents about the Dewey Decimal System and the many wonderful computer database resources available for homeschoolers. Thank you to the Cross Lanes library staff for a great educational day. Could this be an annual event maybe?
The annual KPHE Family Picnic was held on Saturday, September 19th at the Hurricane City Park. Over 60 people gathered for a great day of food, fellowship and field games led by our president, Rita Shaffer. Many families new to KPHE joined us. We praise God for beautiful weather, old friends, and these new families.
